Smart Usage Tips for Forex Cards

 

Dos and Don’ts for Using Your ICICI Bank Forex Prepaid Card

 

Dos

  • Check ATM fees: Some ATMs charge additional transaction fees. Please go through all the instructions displayed on the ATM screen. Verify charges before use.

  • Choose the right option: Select ‘Credit / Checking’ when withdrawing cash or checking your balance at ATMs.

  • Be aware of Cross Conversion charges: Always select the Card currency for payments. Selecting a currency different from your Card currency may incur extra fees. 

  • Sign your Card: Sign on the back of your Card immediately upon receiving it.

  • Report lost Card immediately: Call Customer Care to block and replace your lost Card.

  • Enable International Roaming: SMS alerts work only on Indian mobile numbers with roaming activated.

  • Keep the transaction slips: Retain merchant charge slips for cancelled or reversed transactions as proof. 

  • Set Card Limits before travel: Ensure transaction limits and other necessary functions are enabled before your trip.

Don’ts

  • No pre-authorisations: Avoid using your Card for hotel check-ins or car rentals that require pre-authorisation.

  • Don’t refresh or close the window during online transactions: While carrying out online transactions, let the process complete without interruptions. 

  • Don’t share your PIN: Never share or write down your ATM or web PIN. Do not store it with your Card or documents.

  • Don’t keep your Cards together: For safety, don’t keep your replacement Card with your primary Card. Store them separately.

  • Never hand over your Card: Do not share your Card or PIN with anyone, under any circumstances. 

  • Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC):  Ask merchants to settle transactions in the currency loaded on your Card to prevent extra charges. 

  • Don’t allow Card to be swiped without you: Ensure your Card is swiped or dipped by the merchant only when you are present at the counter.

  • Avoid misuse of the Chip & PIN: If a merchant swipes your chip Card instead of dipping it, request them to insert it into the chip reader.

How to Enable Transactions on your Forex Prepaid Card:


  • iMobile App: 

  • Log into iMobile and select ‘Cards / Forex / Paylater’

  • Then select ‘Forex Prepaid Cards’, click on ‘Transaction Settings’ and enable ‘Tap & Pay / Online Transactions’.

  • Internet Banking 

  • Log into your account and select ‘Cards & Loans’ 

  • Select ‘Forex Prepaid Cards’, click on ‘Transaction Settings’ and select ‘Online / Tap & Pay Transactions’.

  • Non-ICICI Bank Account Holders

  • Enable online transactions via the Self-Care Portal. Refer to the Online Account Management section for details.

Hotel & Car Rental Pre-Authorisations

Hotels and car rental services often place a pre-authorisation (pre-auth) hold on your Card, temporarily blocking a certain amount. To avoid issues at checkout:


  • Request the merchant to settle the final bill against the pre-auth amount. Alternatively, ask them to cancel the pre-auth and process a fresh charge for the actual bill amount.

  • If the merchant does not reverse the blocked amount, ICICI Bank will credit it back on the 31st day.

  • Tip: Avoid using your Forex Prepaid Card for pre-authorisations. 

Handling Unauthorised Transactions

If you notice any unauthorised transactions on your Card or if your Card is lost / stolen:


  • Immediately call ICICI Bank Customer Care to block your Card and prevent misuse.

  • You can raise a dispute for unauthorised transactions within 45 days from the date of transaction settlement. 

  • The investigation process will be completed within 120 days from the date the incident was reported.

  • Customers must be available in India and must provide necessary documents as requested.

Settlement of Unsettled Transactions

  • POS (Swipe) Transactions: Amount will be released on the 31st day. 

  • E-commerce Transactions: Amount will be released on the 31st day.

  • ATM Transactions: Amount will be released on the 11th day.

  • Lost or Stolen Card? Report it immediately to block your Card.

  • Need a Replacement Card? Contact us if your Card is not functioning. 

  • Dispute or Unauthorised Transactions? Report any unauthorised activity on your Card.

  • Want to generate a new ATM / Web PIN? Request a new PIN easily.
